Broc Webster’s “Athanasia explores the metaphysical notion of rebirth: the evolutionary continuance of the spirit beyond bodily death. By weaving interrelated narratives throughout imagery pertaining to differing eras, a progressive ancestral trail is suggested. Mounted on a wall, a vitrine acts as a museological stage: a closed system environment akin to that of our universe, where narratives play out before being ultimately retired, boxed and archived as their successors take their place. Various works scattered on the ground evidence this recurring process, as each image and its accompanying narrative represents an era distinct from the others on display, made clear through the use of historic and contemporary artistic techniques, media and subject matter”.
